So, when I woke up today, I really was not feeling like exercising or eating healthy at all. Then, I decided to take a gander at obesityinamerica.org. For those of you who have not looked at the site, it is basically something that gives you news stories about obesity, ways that obesity affects other aspects of your life, how it can be prevented etc. It's actually a pretty interesting site, and it definitely motivated me to get off my ass and work out. The thing that struck me the most on that site, was an article that I was led to about obesity leading to infertility. Apparently, if a woman is obese, her ovaries are altered in a way that could be responsible for an egg's inability to make an embryo. Now, I don't plan on having children for at least another 5 or 6 years, but I do want to have the option down the road. So, that was my motivation today.
As a result of looking up these obesity websites, I decided to look into some exercise plans and websites. I have decided to try this P90X stuff that I keep hearing so much about. It seems like the new "thing" with some of these exercise plans is the idea of "muscle confusion." Basically, the P90X plan has you doing different exercises every day, rather than the same old exercises day after day, so that your muscles don't hit a plateau. So, they say their plan confuses your muscles by introducing new moves every day so that your body never hits this plateau. Well, I'll let you know how this exercise plan works out!
My dad owns P90X and loves it!! It definitely kicks your butt I hear.
ReplyDeleteI've heard of these P90X things and I have no idea what the deal is (nor do I want or care to find out).
ReplyDeleteThat being said I was interested to find out the fact about women losing embyros because they're obese. That's a fact that we can't ignore here in America, and for that matter, around the world
I have also heard a lot about this P90X workout routine and have been curious if it really is the best thing out there. Yes do let us know how it goes.
ReplyDeleteim interested to see how p90x works out. i feel like i get a little complacent with my biking/running 3 times a week. good luck.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting hungry for some salty snacks reading your blog. Just kidding! How about some crowdsourcing? Ask your readers some questions and you're off and running.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a worthwhile time investment seeing as how I'm looking to drop a few.
ReplyDeleteI'm interested to see/hear how the P90X works! It sounds intense but kind of fun.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it was called P90X, but I know the actors of 300 went through a regimen that changed every day, for the same effect. And considering how ripped they were by filming, I'd say it's a solid plan. It's definitely a great theory, but it'd be interesting to hear about real world practice.
ReplyDeleteOnce I have more time on my hands, I would love to expore how P90X works. I know someone I work with who's doing those exercises, and she's been at it for a couple of weeks now, and she's enjoying it so far.
ReplyDeleteGood luck to you!
On the Kendo offseason I did me some P90x.
ReplyDeleteIt's pretty fast-paced and there really is some of that muscle confusion stuff, but it actually does work pretty well.
I only did the shoulders/plyometrics portion of it, though, since I was still practicing a few times a week and couldn't fight if my entire body felt like jello.
Good luck! And the guy, Tony Horton I think his name is, is actually funny to watch while he does all these pushups because he's just so melodramatic.
I've heard that P90X really works! Good luck, but yes good idea on motivating yourself. We all need a little glimpse into reality to get us going sometimes (:
ReplyDeleteI've heard only good things about P90X from people that have completed it and are in the process. I'm more concerned with just staying fit and in-shape rather than building muscle for strength, but I still might give it a try.
ReplyDeleteObesityInAmerica.org is pretty interesting, too. I knew obesity was up there in America's health risk rankings.
Comedian Greg Giraldo did a spoken word/sort of hip-hop track back in '04 actually addressing, among other things, the "obesity epidemic of 2004."
"Oh it was horrible, Johnny. There was cheesecake and porkchops everywhere."
No new posts? No crowdsourcing?
